Audiology Clinic Overview
The Audiology Clinic at The Center for Hearing and Speech provides comprehensive hearing, hearing aid and cochlear implant services to children birth to 18 years. Although diagnosing hearing loss and fitting appropriate amplification on infants and toddlers can be challenging, our audiologists have extensive experience in working with young and difficult-to-test children. Because we specialize in treating children with hearing loss, our clinic is designed to be a welcoming, friendly and fun place for children to come to learn to hear and listen.
Over the years, we have worked with hundreds of parents who are searching for the type of intervention that best meets the needs of their hearing-impaired children and their families. These parents have taught us a great deal about how the diagnosis of hearing loss affects the family as well as the child. We have learned that a hearing-impaired child is best treated by a team that includes parents as well as professionals. Our goal is to provide families with the information they need to make educated decisions about amplification, mode of communication, type of intervention and educational options.
All of our audiologists understand that, ultimately, our job is to maximize the hearing-impaired child’s ability to use his remaining hearing to learn language and to succeed academically. Consequently, we work very closely with speech-language pathologists, auditory-verbal therapists, physicians and educators. We are quite knowledgeable about the public school special educational process including IEPs and ARDs, FM systems, cochlear implants, state-of-the-art digital hearing aids, assistive listening devices, community resources and local public school services.
