Christie Wright and Michelle Kalman – Plano, Texas
Christie remarks, “I have been an artist my entire life. My medium is always changing. From crayons as a kid, to water color and airbrush in my teens, to graphic design in graduate school.” Christie’s first time using chalk as an art tool was while participating in a local chalk competition in early 2015. While receiving her Masters in Fine Arts at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) in the Arts and Technology program, she became proficient in graphic design and web development. Picking up chalk and getting messy rekindled her love for creating art for fun, aside from her typical functional design based art (logos, invitations, prints). “The competition was a blast and my sister and I actually placed in the amateur category. [Due to] the demands for our business cards, we have since started a chalk drawing business, www.chalkstars.com, and are growing our portfolio daily.” The sisters have also participate in Richoet15 festival which takes place in Richardson, TX.
